At the Aşkale Cement 4000 TPD plant in Gümüşhane, as part of converting the existing grinding and packing facility into a clinker production line, SİBA executed all reinforced concrete and structural steel works — from piling and excavation onward — on a turnkey basis, including design. This case study addresses the conversion of the existing facility, the multi-structure EPC scope, and the combined use of slipform and conventional methods.

Conversion into a clinker production line

The project involves converting an existing grinding and packing facility into a clinker production line. Such conversion projects require the new structures to be positioned in harmony with the existing plant layout and operation, and an execution plan suited to the site conditions.

Multi-structure EPC scope

The scope includes raw meal and clinker silos, bottom clinker and storage silos, a 130-metre tapered reinforced concrete chimney, preheater, cooler and filter structures, rotary kiln supports, mill foundations, and crusher and preblending structures. Approximately 5,500 tons of structural steel was fabricated across the project.

A cement line is not a single structure but a whole in which dozens of interconnected reinforced concrete and steel structures work in harmony.

Slipform and conventional methods

The high-volume industrial structures were built using slipform and conventional formwork together. Slipform was preferred for continuous shell structures such as silos and the chimney, while conventional formwork was used for the geometrically complex process structures.
