Eren Enerji – Zonguldak Ship Unloading Facility

At the ship-unloading facility on Pier 3 of the Eren Enerji Thermal Power Plant in Zonguldak, SİBA delivered the port conveyor systems and transfer towers — approximately 500 metres long — including design, fabrication, erection and commissioning. This case study addresses the engineering context of material-handling systems, the heavy steel fabrication, and the collection bunkers requiring high precision.

Project facts

  • Location: Zonguldak (Pier 3), Turkey
  • Structure type: Port conveyor systems and transfer towers
  • Length: Approximately 500 metres
  • Structural steel: over 1,200 tons
  • Scope: Design, fabrication, erection and commissioning

Material-handling context

A ship-unloading facility conveys the cargo taken from berthed vessels to the plant site via conveyor lines and transfer towers. In such systems, the geometry of the conveyor route, the position of the transfer towers and the structure–equipment integration are decisive for both structural and operational performance.

Heavy steel fabrication and erection

The project involved more than 1,200 tons of structural steel fabrication. Along the roughly 500-metre line, conveyor bridges and transfer towers were erected through a process in which site organisation and the sequence of installation were carefully planned.

On a long handling line, each transfer point is a distinct integration problem requiring the structure and equipment to work together.

High-precision collection bunkers

The collection bunkers — whose installation required advanced engineering and site organisation — were also built within the project. The system was completed with commissioning following the electrical and mechanical works.

Scope

  • Port conveyor systems (~500 m)
  • Transfer towers
  • Collection bunkers (high-precision installation)
  • Steel fabrication and erection (~1,200 tons)
  • Electrical and mechanical systems
  • Commissioning

Outcome

The Eren Enerji Ship Unloading Facility is an infrastructure project that combines large-scale steel fabrication, precise installation and system integration within a single scope from design to commissioning, taking its place among SİBA's heavy-industrial references.
